You mean between controlling or possesive? There’s a lot of overlap so it’s hard to give an exact difference.
Controlling and possessive are both terrible traits in a partner.
* Possessive: they believe they own you and have rights to you beyond what you have to yourself. You are literally treated as a possession.
* Controlling: they feel like they get to make your choices and decisions for you regardless of your preferences. You are literally being controlled.
Many possessive people are controlling. Many controlling people are possessive. They are two toxic traits that often travel together
