I’m a sophomore in college and was just wondering about this. In a casual setting, like a bar or a party, is it normal to shake a girls hand when you first meet, or is it weird?

  1. Are handshakes standard among your peer group, in the settings you’re describing? Do you always shake hands with every guy you are introduced to? If so, do the same for girls, especially if you are shaking a guy’s hand during the same interaction.

    If you would normally just give a head-nod and a « Hey, nice to meet you, » don’t change the script for girls.
