I absolutely love London but it is now time to buy a reasonably priced and affordable house / flat. Although I’m lucky enough to be on a high London salary and work fully-remotely from within the UK in the tech sector, I am still extremely frugal and want to purchase a flat where the prices are not over inflated like anywhere near London.

I love city life where there is easy access to restaurants, cafes, pubs, people going out and having fun, happy people etc and have narrowed my choices down to Manchester or Liverpool (but others are welcome too please feel free to recommend!) and was wondering which ones would you recommend for me to live in?

I will spend a month in each city to feel their vibe before making a decision but I would very much appreciate your input on this.

Also how safe are those cities to live in?

Thank you!

  2. It really comes down to neighborhoods if you are in the suburbs, although there’s not a huge safely difference between Liverpool, Manchester and London.

Liverpool’s nightlive is my favourite of the 3.

  3. I like Liverpool. It has a good range of attractions, pubs, clubs, restaurants. Philharmonic. Theaters. Museums. Parks with festivals. Street performances. Waterfront. Easy reach for Chester and the people are friendly, I’ve never been bored, people will speak to you always. And there is always something going on.

As to the happiness of the going out, fun loving people, now that is more of a philosophical question. Shiny happy people holding hands, shiny happy people laughing

And how safe it is? I am sure that is the same as everywhere. Move to formby rather than toxteh but city center seems pretty safe at night. Or in the day.

But you’ll see anyway when you come to see what you can see- at the bottom of the deep blue sea (sorry I couldn’t resist)

  4. Consider Newcastle. Much safer than London, Manchester or Liverpool. Prices probably lower than Manchester or Liverpool. Plenty going on. Friendliest English city. Has a Metro with easy access to the coast (which is actually pretty great). All of Northumberland on your doorstep (do a Google image search). Edinburgh a couple of hours away.
