I have a coworker who is slightly off (for lack of a better term. Idk if they are diagnosed with anything) and I initially judged them. But after getting to know them and understand their behavior patterns and how they worked i feel like i consider them a friend. But recently i was talking to other coworkers and they said working with that coworker was a pain. I felt bad because i get that the coworker can be frustrating to work with (requires A LOT of patience lol) and i dont want people to make fun of them. But multiple people have made fun of the coworker for that and i feel like i should defend them but idk. What do you think i should do? Btw everyone says it in a joking way but i can still tell they mean it. Also they leave the coworker out of groups because that coworker is elusive but i try to always reach out to them. I think this coworker picks up on this because they always greet me the same way i greet them and basically they mirror my actions toward them back to me and not anyone else.

  1. I feel you, I’m the same way I’m always nice to the person that everyone else is rude to. I try to be nice to everyone so I have my toes in all the different groups at work and they seem to trust and like me. If they’re saying mean things about the “weird” person, I’ll just be “I don’t know, I like them. “ but I don’t try too hard to get everyone on board. Most people just don’t have the patience or are too ignorant to try and understand people that are “off”.
