I cracked my front tooth as a teenager and since then had a lot of work on it including root canal and finally for the past 15 years – a crown.
My crown came out and due to the tooth fracturing I have had to have a denture.
I am looking to have an implant instead. I appreciate this isn’t a cheap option but it’s my front tooth and I hate the denture.
Has anyone had an implant ? I’ve been quoted £150 for a consultation with a specialist near me. I have no idea if this is right / the norm and what costs I should expect.

Expect about £2500 all-in. My father-in-law has one and it looks great.
Yes. I had consultations with two dentists before going ahead and both were free. As the other person said expect £2.5kish and that’s dependent on whether you need a bone graft first.
Yes I’ve got a Cyanide capsule in my tooth in case I’m caught by the Russian while stealing government secrets from the kremlin
£150 is a very common amount for a first consultation with private healthcare
Costs vary hugely depending where you go and how much work they do – [cheap](https://www.perfectprofilesclinics.co.uk/how-much-do-dental-implants-cost/), [average](https://www.theperfectsmile.co.uk/implant-dentistry/cost-of-implants), [expensive](https://www.75harleystreet.co.uk/harley-street-dental-implant-costs.html). Remember more expensive doesn’t always mean better. Research a few local providers, and check their qualifications (a qualification in prosthodontics is desirable) and reviews as well as their pricing. Make sure you understand what’s included in the price – you don’t want to be hit with extra costs for consultations and x rays and so on.
Personally I think it’s a good idea to have to pay for a consultation, and £150 is not bad considering the time involved. Practitioners who offer free consultations are often desperate for business and may attempt to pressure you into something unsuitable.
I got one about 10 years ago and it cost me £2k. It’s fantastic. Looks almost real and I’ve had no trouble with it. My options on the NHS were to get a denture or a bridge, which would have wrecked the two adjoining teeth.
The process took about 5 months for me in total due to needing a bone graft and the old tooth causing inflammation which had to go down before they could proceed. But in some circumstances it can be done a lot quicker.
I’d recommend it.
I haven’t but my mother has. They usually cost around 2500 per implant. Expect quite a lot of aftercare and disruption, but they are amazing once done.
