Long story short, I work in the film/tv industry for a graphics company (see an actor using a computer in a film? I set that up and run the graphic/whatever you see on the screen) but I’d rather be in a different department. This other department, which is close with camera, is one I’ve worked in a few times back home in Ireland, but I’ve moved to London since that department isn’t really in demand at home.

My plan was to take this graphics job, make friends with people in the other department when on set and jump ship when the opportunity came round. So far it’s been nearly six months since moving here and I’ve only done a handful of jobs in that department, but nothing substantial (week here, few days there, etc.). I still have the phone numbers of the people from these jobs, but I’ve barely stayed in contact with them because I don’t know how to. Like I worked with one guy for four months, we got along super well on set and everything, but I’ve only been in contact with him a handful of times since we last worked together because I don’t know what to say to him.

I’ve tried just reaching out to people to say hi and to let them know I’m available if they have anything coming up, but beyond that I don’t know what else to say to them. Has anybody got any advice?
