I been chatting with a person with an profile claiming to travel between Thailand and Las Vegas (where I l live). Chatting (off and on), using Whatsapp, has been nice for about a week or two. Then they turned the conversation to which section of town is nice to buy a house, and they have large amount (about $300k USD) for a down payment. Then I started to notice a few wrong words, like a really bad translation is occurring now. For example, the use of wrong pronouns, like when I say “him”, they reply with “she.” Then the conversion turned towards to divorce and how mine is still in progress and how much it costs in the US (because they got divorce too, just not in the US).

Now the weird / strange part, keeping in mind I am overweight, have kids (sometimes), and over 40 years old talking to a older 35 woman, she wants to meet in person (once back in the US next week) and offering to pay my remaining lawyer fees from the divorce.

The best I can figure is this chat is headed towards an invalid / bad check type scam.

What do you think the scam here is going end up being?

  1. It’s phishing for personal info. Probably take whatever pertinent info you’ve coughed up, put it together and maybe hock a loan or something of the like.

I get similar users pop into my WhatsApp and ask a bunch of directed questions like the good ol ASL? But now they ask where you live and what you do for work and identifiers for the company you work for and so on……It gets pretty wild since if you’re getting added to WhatsApp…your phone number has been compromised somewhere along the way already.
