Basically whenever I get pissed off with someone and start arguing with them, something strange happens. My ears go red, my heart beat increases and my thinking becomes muddy. It’s like my IQ drops down 100 points, so that I can no longer make any cogent points.

When things have calmed down and I think back on the interaction, I realise a million different things that I could have said in response to the person I was arguing with. But at the time, I’m so overwhelmed that I end up saying nothing.

How can I overcome this? I’ve only noticed it happen when arguing with siblings (probably because I haven’t argued much with anyone else? I don’t know).

Edit: posted this immediately after I just experienced this

  1. You’re identifying too much with your side of the argument and taking it personally. Take a step back, relax and don’t take it so seriously. Look at both sides and try to realize at the end of the day it’s not your job to convince people of what is right or wrong. That is their responsibility.
