I am in a tough situation and need some guidance. I am a working mom with a 19 month old kid. My daughter didn’t go to daycare today as she is sick with cold so I had to ask my husband to babysit our daughter for couple of hours in the morning while I am in meetings/ calls. While I was in an office call, I heard my daughter screaming so I thought of checking on the nanny cam to see why she is crying. I saw my husband drinking bear and neglecting my daughter who was sitting on the couch alone.

I need to work today as I have already taken multiple leaves in past few months due to some family issues. I need someone reliable to look after my daughter. I feel so stressed out about this whole situation. I don’t have an option to quit my job and my husband isn’t contributing in raising the kid due to his drinking problem.

  1. I don’t think you should seek babysitters in this app since there are a lot of weird ppl here. I think you should find a reliable and trusted app or website for babysitters. But you can also seek help with your relatives if u want (in my country, people can ask for their relatives/granpa/grandma to take care of their child when they’re busy)

  2. Firstly, when he’s sober, you need to talk to him and give him the opportunity to explain (before or whilst ripping him a new one). You probably need to give him an ultimatum on ‘get help or get out’. He cannot do that to your daughter and you ignoring it is enabling him.
Can you maybe arrange with work for the next few days to do flexi hours (I hear kids can’t go back to daycare for a certain number of days with certain illnesses).
    Most importantly, you got this.

  3. He is the father? That’s not babysitting. That’s parenting. He needs to step up to the plate or be divorced and pay child support

  4. In my area there is a facebook group for finding babysitters and getting referrals. You will need a local group one way or the other.

    Good luck with your husband…

  5. Oh, man, that sounds really rough. I’m sorry you’re in this situation; I hope you’re able to work something out.
