I don’t recall ever seeing so many cars smoking as the go along. Black smoke too, not blue, so it’s definitely related to fuel burn. Not to mention that every exhaust pipe you look at is now black with soot, when I’m certain this never used to be anywhere near as common. Is it just me?

  1. Black smoke coming from a petrol vehicle is very rare and would be very worrying. You’re likely noticing diesel vehicles.

  2. Maybe you’re just noticing it more because exhaust fumes are a lot more visible when it’s colder.

  3. DPF deletion maybe, no idea how common that is, but given DPF issues are very common who knows

  4. Possibly due to the fact there are currently more older cars on the road due to the slowdown of new car production. That and a probable reduced amount of servicing due to cost of living.
