Hi all, for the last 2 years I’ve been a student at Durham uni and have therefore been living in Durham. I come from a very rural area so this is the first city I’ve lived in.

I really love it here and don’t want to live anywhere else, but I realised that that’s just because I haven’t had any experience living anywhere else, and most cities probably have what I’m looking for.

Last year I failed my exams and have been put on a forced year out, and so I have gotten a job that is based near home but that I can do fully remotely. I am also heavily considering ditching uni and sticking with this job going forwards.

My question to you is: where should I live? It’s getting very hard for me to afford Durham and I recently realised that I can pretty much live anywhere in the country, I just haven’t had enough experience to know where I should go.

  1. Most of the villages and small towns around Durham are so much cheaper (I know I live in one) And I’m only 1/2 hour away from Durham.

  2. What is it about Durham you like?

The size? The old buildings? The fact you’re a student there living the student life?

Answer that and you’ll be able to narrow it down better (or if it’s the latter, maybe decide to stick with uni).
