I wanted to stop watching porn due to masturbating to it multiple times a day. Now my sex drive is almost gone. I would get an occasional horniness, but for the most part, it’s not there. I don’t even have the urge to look at porn.

  1. When you stop ejaculating, your testosterone will rise for a few days and then fall off a cliff.

  2. The science on the sudden and drastic cessation of porn consumption in the context of masturbation is still not really all that clear. I’ve read some things that point to evidence of a bit of a dopamine circus after stopping entirely, and it may well be that your brain is going through a process of “re-wiring” itself, due to its unmet needs for your habitual forms of arousal, while getting ready to find other things arousing. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few weeks you start noticing women more IRL – even those that don’t look like pornstars. You may start getting graphic sexual thoughts about them, which would indicate a return to your baseline spontaneous sexual desire that many men experience. Fun fact; transmen who are undergoing testosterone therapy also experience this, and they report that it can be quite jarring and concerning, but it’s normal for people with high levels of testosterone such as typical cis men.

So ride it out, keep yourself occupied with productive things and see where it takes you. The brain is an amazing thing and although we don’t really understand the mechanisms of adapting after years of hyper-arousal, it will take care of you.

  3. Such a refreshing post! What was your motivation if you don’t mind me asking? Also, I think the more you tune-in to the sensations in your own body, the more awakened you’ll feel. Maybe the next time you shower really notice how everything feels. The water falling onto your skin, your fingers on your scalp washing your hair, and the smell of the soap, etc. Think of it as a way to reconnect to your body in a deep way.
