I’ve dated people, broken up with them and stayed friends with them, I guess its only really as awkward as both people make it.

So this will only work if both of you are on board. Personally, I’ve never seen it happen, and I’ve never wanted to be friends with a girl I’ve previously dated so I can hear about her banging some other guy. Pass.
Many times. I’d describe that as a common outcome.
I’ve done it. We actually dated for about a year before we determined that we weren’t the right match. We both really enjoyed each other though, so we’ve stayed good friends. I agree with others, though, that it only works if you’re both on the same page and NEITHER of you has romantic feelings.
