Yes, always. I use oil instead of butter normally.
EDIT: Sorry, I do not grill meat on a grill. I assumed the term was being used loosely.
Either add a thin layer of oil to the grill top or add a bit of oil to the surface of the meat.
An air fryer is not the same as grilling.
What is your cooking surface? An actual charcoal or gas grill? A stovetop? A fire? What is it that you plan to cook with?

I never have. There’s typically enough fat in the meat to prevent sticking.
Every time I try to cook with oil America sends in the marines and I just give it to them because I don’t want any trouble.
