I tried hard to only use the lower base of fingertips to apply pressure, she still gets hurt in the end.

Any other advise for me to do better next time?

Don’t bend your fingers enough to scratch her.. If you’ve cut em then even if she moves suddenly it shouldn’t be possible to hurt her

If you keep your nails short enough you pretty much can’t scratch her.
