My 13 month old twins got RSV in October and had to be hospitalized for 3 days. One of them has seemed very sick and lethargic again recently. We keep taking him to the doctor, who gave medicine, and we’ve had 2 follow-ups with another tomorrow. I still keep fearing we’ll end up back in the hospital again or worse…even though my wife says we’re doing what the doctor said and all we can.

Oddly specific, but any tips to stop being a lunatic?

  1. Mental Chatter is a gremlin. It is a rabbit hole that if left unchecked, will lead to physical symtoms including insomnia, stomach issues, heart rythmn issues, etc.

It’s been a rough couple of years and at times seems like we just can’t seem to catch a break. It lead to quite a bit anxiety and depression and eventually physical symtoms for me.

One thing which has the most helpful has been practicing mindfullness meditation and it helps me recognize when that chatter starts. You have to practice meditation regularly and not just when you are feeling unwell. But after about 6 months I noticed slight changes in my ability to recognize the anxious thoughts. Another 6 months and I find myself less reactionary. It takes time, but helps. It’s not a cure because there is none, but it helps.

Life is not easy, but adding additional pressure on outcomes that might not occur does not help. As your wife said, you are doing everything you being directed to do to the best of your ability. Stay grounded, present and be kind to yourself.
