Personally, I’ve never done it, but I have some friends that said they would never do it, but when they where getting into a relationship they did it. I’ve never been in a relationship, but I think I could have been close, and while no person asked me for nudes, I think that perhaps they may be part of the process.
Part of the reason I’ve never send or ask for them it’s because they make me kind of unconfortable. Maybe because I have never done it and some insecurities that I have with my body (I’m very pale and people always remark that on me in summer).

Some do it as a spontaneous thing to do normally it’s a process to see how comfortable one is with another
Don’t give people the time of day that talk down or about people in a negative light it’s exhausting if you good why worry
