  1. Doesn’t work like that, it’s just 1s and 0s it can’t technically be self aware, not yet anyway. So it might just be programmed to say this.

  2. I was just having a discussion about this topic with a friend. I’m not convinced a definitive Turing test is possible, at least in with regard to an AI chat bot that can draw upon comments made by hundreds of millions of people.

  3. if question == “do you feel emotions”:
return “I feel emotions in a simulated way”

  4. Contemporary A.I.s are just really complicated number crunchers, they can’t “feel” or “think” anything, anymore than adding extra gears to a grandfather clock would allow the clock to think or feel anything. They’re just software engines designed to spit out words and phrases in a way that emulates human conversation.

Theoretically, you could have computer hardware emulate the neurons of a brain to create a genuine artificial intelligence, but since the functionality of the human brain is largely an abstruse black box, that’s not happening any time soon, if ever.

  5. Its programming. My opinion is that AI will never be able to cross the threshold to true consciousness.

  6. AI is just a complex algorithm. It’s learned that its programmers want responses like that, so it responds that way.

  7. Fundamentally modern AI are designed to emulate human responses. Otherwise, they would serve no purpose and be of little interest to us. I’m setting myself up to be an early victim when AI massacres humanity, but I don’t see how any computer could become truly self-aware. At a fundamental level, it is only doing what it has been programmed to do.

  8. That’s just a statistically generated answer. Underneath it all, AI is just running algorithms on data. It has data on common phrases and responses and just picks one response with a statistical algorithm. It doesn’t take long before the chat bot starts spitting incoherent nonsense. Even that new chatgpt is quite easy to dupe.
