Hi all. I’m a bit stuck and I’m unsure where and in which direction to go.I’m 26 years old.I graduated from KCL a few years back with a degree in Business and Management. After that I took on a job as a business development manager which was actually not paying that great. I stayed for about 1 year but quit afterwards as the environment was not great and I wasn’t going to get promoted to anything above what I was making. I then got a job as an estate agent. Base was low, but I was very good at it. I worked there for 2 years but the hours are extremely long – 8:30am to sometimes 7pm. My relationship was suffering and I decided to prioritise my partner. Since then I have been involved in the family business in an other country. I took 1 year off to travel and 1 year I was needed to fully help the business.Me and partner have established that we will stay in the UK long term so I sold my part of the business. I’m looking at jobs in the UK and all I can find in London is 25-30k ranges. I don’t wish to work in business development as it’s all cold calling and I find that absolutely soul crushing. Do you have any recommendations as to what jobs I should be looking at?I’m using indeed and reed, would you recommend I look through other means?

  2. You could pivot that BDM into account management – some environments you’ll get existing accounts to manage, then you just expand into those accounts.

This is surprising and seems way too entry level. Retail type work earns this much. Have you spoken to a recruiter and talked through your skill set? There’s also the option to learn to code.

  4. Cold calling is expected in some full cycle sales roles, but if you look at account manager/executive and closing roles, there will be much less of that. Definitely opportunities to earn a lot more than 30k.

  5. If your good at relationship management in your BDM role you could pivot into account management in these sectors:

    – high end travel agency.

    – brewery and beer sales.

    – fleet hire and sales

    – high end tech purchasing.

To name but a few. If your good at being an estate agent, it sounds like you have good people skills which is a very transferable skill in many industries. It sounds like your similar in skillset to me – i dont enjoy cold calling but i am so much better at speaking to people, finding out their needs and what we can sell them that makes sense. I work in IT though so i am a bit masochistic.
