Ask if they want a rest home room with a view.
Remind them that the assisted living will be nice, as long as they can afford it. Or “this is why I’ll never visit, tell your friends about this in the home we put you in.”
Few questions. Do you still live with them? Are they mentally ill or abuse substances (that you know of)? Are they married/in a relationship and if so, how do they treat their partner? Do you have any siblings and if so, how does this parent treat them?
You put them down and walk away.
I didn’t. I was afraid to do or say anything. Then when I was 16 she died.
Humiliate them infront of their friends or church group.
Have a conversation and set a boundary. If that boundary isn’t respected, cut them out of my life. I’m an adult and I get to choose who gets to be in my life. Why would I allow myself to let someone into my life who hurts me? I don’t hate myself.
Just remember when you’re too old to take care of yourself who will still be around
Return the favor.
Don’t call or visit.
