This happens a school a lot. I’ll see someone i know, they will come up to me and say hey. I say hey back then, nothing. We stand there awkwardly because I don’t know what to say. We’re usually not close friends just friend-ish so I don’t know what to talk about. I feel like “how have you been?” Is too formal and doesn’t really fit with the “cool” thing to say. It will also just end in “good u?” “Same.” What should I say or do? I’m just tired of being a awkward loser.

“How have you been” is good because it shows some sign of care. After that I’d say if you know anything about their interests, schooling, job,etc. that’s a good segway. Conversations don’t always need to be anything more than a hello, asking how someone is doing then goodbye. Also, don’t worry about the “cool” thing people will appreciate you asking about them
