I’m a first year university student who hasn’t made any friends yet. Recently I’ve had a few new people join one of my classes and unlike a lot of people here they came across as friendly and mature. It actually felt relatively easy to talk them and I didn’t really feel awkward at all for once. It’s crossed my mind that they might ask for any social media to talk about things such as assignments and I’m worried it will be odd given that I’m a guy and they’re all girls. Would it be weird?

  1. No. In fact I prefer it. Even though I come from a time when it was more normal, you can get more feedback from hearing speech, and the speaker feels more connected by being heard. The gender dynamic plays a part, but as long as you are being genuine, it will be on them to react positively and decline if they’re not comfortable. You are not responsible for everyone’s level of comfort interacting on a basic level: like a lot of others in this sub.
