I’ve (22F) noticed that most of the time when I’m in a store at a specific mall in my university city by myself, the retail workers can be really rude to me. I always try to be polite and nice to these workers, but I’m not naturally a very bubbly, talkative, and outgoing person by nature.

Like for example, I had politely asked a woman who worked at one of the shoe stores in the mall today if she could get me a pair of shoes in my size and she rudely told me to give her a minute and once she gave me the shoes, she rudely told me to make sure to keep my socks on as I tried them on. But the moment my mom (who is very bubbly, talkative and outgoing by nature) talks to this woman, the woman was very friendly and polite to her, which made me feel like shit.

So because of my personality being the way it is, I worry that I’m being unintentionally rude to these workers and they are rude to me in return because of this.

  1. I feel like retail workers go through a lot dealing with rude people they become rude themselves like the opposite of you’re situation, and most people I’d hope are more kind to older people
I don’t think it’s you though I find it annoying when people are randomly rude, then become suddenly nice when around other or certain people.
