i (f20) am neurodivergent and therefore always struggled making friends. the apartment next to me has a couple of other girls seemingly my age living there (i can hear them often and have seen them go in there apartment a couple times). i think this could be a good opportunity to possibly make friends but would leaving a note on their door prompting the idea of hanging out turn them off or come off as strange?

I think you need to “meet” them before you jump into hanging out or being friends. And I think a note sort of puts it on them to make a move which isn’t really appropriate because the motivation is on you. I’d suggest you drop by when you know they’re home, knock on their door and just say, “Hi, my name is bugsinmyhair, I live next door and just wanted to introduce myself. I hope I’m not bothering you.” That’s really all you have to do, and their response will guide you to the next step, if there is one.
