I’ve noticed a few states where the time zone change cuts right down the middle, how does that work? Are counties entirely within each time zone? If you’re right in the middle, how do you choose which one to follow?

Yes, that is a good side dish. Also, mashed potatoes and gravy.
Yes and supposedly are fries which is odd at least in the US.
Yes
Mashed potatoes and gravy, biscuits, and coleslaw are my chosen sides. Mac n cheese would be acceptable though. Mac n cheese is at its best when creamy and cheesy (ie not dry, and I hate breadcrumbs in mine).
You are aware that Kentucky Fried Chicken is the name of a fast food chain, and not a unique regional style or preparation of fried chicken, right?
So I’d say “an acceptable and common side” to KFC is whatever the restaurant sells as sides.
KFC is mid to low tier chicken to begin with. (At least in the US)
So, I’m assuming any side falls into the same level.
If you’re getting KFC, what ever side you get is just fine.
Yeah I like Mac n cheese
Yes. Heck, the thought of it is making my mouth water now.
KFC is the bottom of the barrel in terms of fast food fried chicken in the US. But for a different chicken, yes, mac and cheese is great.
Yeah I often get macaroni as my side when I go to KFC. It’s not the best macaroni in the world but it’ll do.
I’m not sure why it has to be a Kentucky fried chicken, and I’m not sure if KFC serves Mac n cheese, but I would say yes in general.
Some common sides for fried chicken are fries, tater tots, and other fast food related sides.
I personally like Mac n cheese because of its strong flavor and cheesiness
> What makes the Mac ‘n Cheese extra delicious?
I wouldn’t say it’s “extra delicious.” But sometimes you just want that fake, processed cheese taste. I order it.
I prefer a regional chain to KFC for my fast-food fried chicken needs personally, but I always get mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans as my sides. And a biscuit and honey of course.
If you get fried chicken from a grocery store deli, some of them have smoked mac and cheese as a possible side and that can be delicious. Potato salad is also an excellent side from a deli. Deli fried chicken + potato salad + baked beans is an awesome summertime meal that can be picked up all at once from the deli.
I like corn with fried chicken. I guess I’m weird.
The actual KFC chain doesn’t have very good side dishes. (They don’t have great fried chicken either, tbf.)
My preferred sides are cream corn and mashed potatoes w/ brown gravy. If someone had mac n cheese instead I would definitely not be mad about it!
Why wouldn’t it be? It’s the most common side wit fried chicken
I mean, if it’s on their menu as a side, it’s an acceptable side.
Mac and cheese and fried chicken is a great combo though.
Baked beans. Mashed Potatoes with plenty of butter. Cole slaw.
I saw in the comments that you’re making fried chicken. Yes, mac and cheese is a great side!
Other good sides include: collard greens, green beans, biscuits, cornbread, creamed corn, corn on the cob, cole slaw, potato salad, mashed potatoes, hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, and fried okra. Slices of watermelon are always good if you want something fresh. Peach cobbler and pecan pie are my favorite desserts for this type of meal.
Obviously you don’t need all of these sides! If this is for a large get-together, I personally would do mac and cheese, collard greens, biscuits, corn on the cob, potato salad, fried okra, watermelon, and peach cobbler. Basically, you wouldn’t need two types of bread, or both cole slaw and potato salad, etc.
I love creamy mac and cheese – I use a family recipe that I don’t know offhand, but it is very similar to [this NYTimes recipe](https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1022733-creamy-baked-macaroni-and-cheese). I know people from other countries make fun of Americans for our “cheese,” and I wouldn’t make mac and cheese with only Velveeta, but, if you can get Velveeta or something similar in your country, it makes the most delicious creamy mac and cheese. It’s difficult to describe what Velveeta is – it’s basically cheese adjacent, but, if you look up “Velveeta” and your country, you can probably find something similar where you are.
Fast food mac & cheese is consistently unimpressive. I’d go hard on biscuits, personally.
That’s just a common side dish for fried chicken in general.
I haven’t had KFC since… probably 2006. But those biscuits are probably the same and delicious.
yes
when making mac and cheese american is going to give you the best melt, velveeta if you can find it. dont try to over think mac and cheese and just keep it simple and unhealthy, butter, flour, cream and lots of cheese. salt and pepper, maybe add a little chicken base or something for some extra flavor.
fried chicken is all about the spices and flour/buttermilk and crispy skin, no need for cornflakes or bread crumbs,
Is that available at KFC in America? It’s not sold at KFC in Aus but most American restaurant will have Mac and cheese with their sides.
Whenever I make fried chicken at home it’s generally complimented with Mac and Cheese
Yeah bro
When I make homemade mac and cheese, I like to add some pulled pork (with BBQ sauce) and/or some pickled jalapeño peppers. Mac and cheese can taste a little, “one-note” so I like to include some pops of flavor.
Yes, macaroni and cheese is just fine with fried chicken.
Mashed potatoes with gravy (either white or brown) is another good choice, so is cole slaw, or green beans.
Also, it’s usually only called “Kentucky Fried Chicken” when talking about the chain. The dish itself is just “fried chicken”.
I like biscuits and French fries
Anything included in a full southern is appropriate.
Corn
Green beans / collard greens
Mac and cheese
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Biscuits / corn bread
Potato wedges / fries
OP needs to tell us where they’re from
Yes. Sounds delicious.
People will mention mashed potatoes and gravy and mac’n’cheese because that’s what KFC (what Kentucky Fried Chicken is now called) served. Now I’ll *never* turn down mac’n’cheese or mashed potatoes with gravy. But long before Colonel Sanders came along the standard side dish with Southern fried chicken was potato salad, and I still prefer that.
Source: I’m a real old-timer.
Mashed potatoes are better
Yes, though cornflakes are not normal on fried chicken in the US. We do fried chicken with flour, milk, salt, pepper and a few other spices. Nashville hot fried chicken is popular too.
Other popular sides include southern style biscuits (not like British biscuits) mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, and coleslaw.
Everyone is diving into your lack of knowledge on KFC bit nobody has answered your Mac n cheese question. The pasta has to be perfect. Often it’s overcooked and not salted. The cheese should be plentiful have big flavor and be both creamy and stretchy. I get this by using 4 cheeses in my Mac. Sharp cheddar, gruerre, parmasan, and mozzarella. Make a bechamel and then slowly melt in the cheese.
