Sorry if the title doesn’t really make sense, the problem I’m having is I end up apologizing a lot and many times people say something like you’re fine, you weren’t doing anything, or you were in the right. How would I respond to something like that?

  1. Stop apologizing for everything.. Apologies should have two parts; responsibility and restitution.

If you broke a vase, you’d take responsibility for your carelessness, reassure them that you’ll be more careful, and replace or fix the damaged item.

Apologies without both parts are insincere and damage your integrity. People brush false apologies off to be friendly and non-confrontational, but after a while it gets a bit annoying to have to reassure the false apologist for their passive aggressive conduct.

  2. What I do is just move on from the topic and talk about something else. Its a point in the conversation where you aren’t expected to talk any more about whatever you apologized for. If you keep talking about it, they might be annoyed that you’re apologizing too much over stuff that doesn’t matter. Just let it go once they say it’s fine
