Why does this happen? Aren’t they my close friends? If not how do I make them close?

It took me off guard the first time I went and got gas in NJ. I didn’t know. They do walk up, you hand them the cash and say “30$ of regular, please” (or premium if you need it) and simply turn off your car and unlock your gas tank (if that’s a thing in your car) and they will just fill it up for you. They are usually very nice. Sometimes they will wash your windshield and stuff for you too.
“$30 regular, cash”
Hand them the cash when you’re done
Very Easy: “$30 of 89 octane, please.” and then just ‘pop’ the gas tank if you need to, and chill out until they’re done. You pay, then leave. Easy, peasy…
You can also ask how’s their day going and wish them a good day.
