Places to shop, certain qualities to look for, how to find the right fit (specifically for thicker guys with wider hips), what is/is not worth the cost

  1. For context I’m 6’1 and 235 lbs. I also wear a size 14 shoe.

I’ve found both Carhartt and Duluth Trading Company to have good quality pants and shirts for Big and Tall guys. You’ll spend a little more especially at Duluth Trading, but I’ve never had an issue with quality.

If you need more elegant/professional clothing I would recommend golf pants. They have elastic in the waistband and I don’t remember the brand I have but I found them on Amazon. For suits, if you can afford it, Joseph A Banks and take the time to let them measure and tailor the suit to you. I think I paid roughly $300 for the whole suit but that was a few years ago.

  2. lose weight. you’ll look and feel better than any “fashion” will help

  3. Seeing as nearly zero stores carry the sizes I want, I shop on eBay. Lucky, Seven, and Diesel jeans sell for $50 tops. Just make sure they don’t have button flys instead of zipper, buttons ones suck.

  4. Pants w/taper or relaxed fit that sit at natural waist or a little higher, the current below waist jeans are for skinny little kids

    Darker dress shirts untucked

Suspenders (these are a lifesaver if really fat)

    Nice sunglasses and boots

Honestly 6’3 and 240 isn’t that fat I was 5’9 and 220 before dieting lol

  5. Best fashion tips for any guys:

#1) is lose fat, gain muscle.
#2) take a woman with you when you buy clothes.

Edit: not sure why this is bold. Sorry.

  6. Old Navy, Kohls, and JC Penny’s usually have big and tall available online, Penny’s also has a section in store. The selection isn’t always flattering, but it’s totally possible to find pieces that can slot into one’s wardrobe.

When buying tall sizes, you may need to try on a few different sizes because you may be able to fit well in an XL Tall rather than a 2XL regular.

  7. Nig and tall guy here myself (6’2″, 320). It’s not the cheapest route to go, and it may not feel natural at first, but my advice would be to move to dressier clothes like fitted button down shirts and slacks. These types of clothes are already designed to minimize the appearance of weight, so it may help him be less self-conscious about his size. Furthermore, throw a blazer on occasionally, and it’ll draw the eyes to his shoulders and away from his belly/hips.
