Hey, I (f) have been kinda curious about nudism for a while now, even if it’s just partial nudism and I was wondering what the difference was between these two? As I’ve seen both terms being used.

  1. Nudism is an attitude to life that goes hand in hand with a free body feeling. This means that nudists do not want to feel restricted by clothing and fabric in their normal everyday life. This has nothing to do with sexuality in first place. Sure there are participants of nudism that join it due to voyeuristic or exhibitionistic reasons. But mostly these individuals are not very welcome in nudism communities.

being sex positive means only that one has a very open mind towards everything sex-related and that one is open to try a lot of different things.

  2. So… Being sex-positive is about appreciating that sex is a thing humans do for fun and being accepting that there are a WIDE variety of different strokes for different folks.

Nudism is either being pro-naked or textile averse.

Naturism (I know you didn’t ask) is a step beyond nudism with the philosophical idea behind it being “We were born naked. Naked is natural. Be naked.”

  3. Nudism or naturalism is about how bodies are natural and that society is a hint weird who insists on hiding them all the time.

Being sex positive is about how you shouldn’t need to be shy about your sexuality and how you prefer to practice your sexuality. About how no body function related to sex is a negative thing and shouldn’t be a negative thing.

The difference is that naturists are not necessarily sex positive.

In fact, naturists are pretty damn fed up with the sex positive people with no social boundaries who think that it’s a good idea to have sex out in the open at naturist resorts that, besides the bit about being clothes optional, are often child safe family events. (clothes optional works in many families, but not EVERY family.)
