I have got my UK driving licence 4 months ago while I have driven in my home country for 8 years. Every company asks for 2 years of driving history. Any tips of hiring car with a new licence? (I stay in Bristol)

  2. Phone a company rather than going online. And say you’ve had your X licence for 8 years but now have a UK one.

You aren’t a new driver so should be able to get a quote based on your overseas licence.

  3. You can’t, it’s the same everywhere I’ve hired. Minimum and maximum age and minimum two or three years full licence.

Are you still in possession of your old original licence you may be able to use that.

  4. They don’t.

Hire companies do however hire to people on a foreign license, so if you call and explain and give both license numbers you should be able to get a quote.

  5. Enterprise Rent a Car and Enterprise Car Club hire vehicles to those who have had their licence less than a year, providing you meet their age requirements.

Source: had my licence less than a year, rented cars and vans from Enterprise.

  6. Last time I tried (in 2014), Enterprise were the only major rental company that accepted new drivers.

  7. I don’t remember ever being asked how long I had my licence when renting cars.
