I want to talk to people and make friends (or a girlfriend) but I get pretty socially anxious and tend to stay in my room most of the time. Whenever we are talking about a subject that I know about the conversation can flow smoothly but I struggle tremendously with small talk and don’t really know how to approach people. I recently got a roommate who is like the complete opposite of me socially and I’ve been meeting a lot of new people but I wish I talked to them more beyond just introducing myself. Anything someone can say on small talk or approaching someone for conversation?

  1. Small talk is overrated. Talking about what you’re interested in, like a painting in a museum or a country side area with fellow runners or with other music lovers at a gig is easier.

  2. Small talk is UNDER-rated! People don’t know what its purpose is.

What do you think the purpose is?
