I’ll be attending a work social in a few weeks, and I’m pretty nervous. Last time I had went to a social, I was so anxious I was noticeably sweating. I sweat a LOT when I’m anxious or flustered.

One person jokingly moved me directly under the A/C so I can cool off but honestly that made me feel more embarassed.

Most of the people I work with are more, mature(?) I like to talk about whatever like horror movies, games, anime, etc. They don’t seem to follow it either so I feel immature in comparison, despite my work behavior not reflecting this. I’ve tried to interact with one other person that’s like the quirky girl of the office but I got brushed off by her so that sucks.

I don’t know what I want except to really express my anxiety about going to another work event. It’s paid and I would like the extra money so that’s a motivator.
Possible advice on how to calm down anxiety at an event for work?

  1. I’d say keep your focus on the fact your there for the money. The social interactions are the work.

Either put on a personality that is easy to use for the work event. This will lower initial anxiety but if your work personality doesn’t have the information or etc you might get anxiety during certain questions etc.

Or just be your absolute self, there’s no real point long-term to fitting in. It’s a short term gain for a long-term commitment. If you like hobbies that are different from everyone else that’s a good thing, they have just as much power to be interested in your topics as you are of there’s.

Keep your focus on why you want to be there and give yourself a goal (for additional focus ) and a exit strategy incase it gets to much.
