18M I have just entered into college thinking I would I make new friends easily but I am finding it very difficult like I have tried talking to people but they just talk to me once and ignore the next time I come to them. One of the reasons could be that I look really different here as everyone is dark skinned here and I am like really white and fair(by dark skin I don’t mean black people) or I just have social anxiety lmao.

  1. Honestly I went 7 years in university without making a single college friend. It has a lot to do with my major and how grad school works.

    Not many engineering students are into physical type hobbies. Having a few health conditions means if I don’t exercise 3-4 times a week I will develop horrible pain. So that’s being said I never connected with my peers in college, in fact most of friends today are normal working people only 2 people in my 20 person friend group are educated workers

    Depending on your situation I wouldn’t worry about it too much. During college the friends I made a long the way were people I met on cycling trails, women I met at the grocery store where I worked, in general the friends I made were from the interests I do not the education I did.

    Actually in grad school was when it became worse that was the time when most of us were working a career and studying. Engineer grad school is a bit different since most of us are working 20-30 hours and studying 2-3 classes. It gives 0 chance to make friends, even less if the student has children aswell

  2. My advice would be social clubs and stuff.

    I made my own society based around paradox games, it’s the best source of friends.

    Or go to the local gym or swimming pool. I made a few friends in the swimming pool

  3. Been there a decade back in college so;
    – don’t start a conversation with others quickly
    – try to join group chats or group conversation irl in campus
    – you can now move the conversation to individual
    – don’t start shifting people. Pick one. Start tej conversation and spend a month
    I hope this helps you. You’d be okay and nothing wrong with you. It’s just the environment and what you said.
