I don’t know if this makes sense, but I have trouble figuring out who are just people I know in my life, who are my friends and who are more like family. I’ve known this girl that I met in a class this semester for 3 months now. We do homework together and talk the entire time and then talk outside of classes. How do I know if someone just wants to be my friend because of a shared thing or because they actually like me?

When they do something for you.
Ask them if they wanna hang out, if they do they’re probably a friend, otherwise they are a casual acquaintance.
My way of identifying a true friend might be unorthodox, but my friends are people I can insult and they understand it is humor.
