Why is nobody annoyed at the songs that come from an overhead speaker in a store or restaurant, but people are orders of magnitude more annoyed by someone playing music from their phones in a store or restaurant?

1. When it comes from an individuals phone it’s distracting and demands attention from anyone nearby. An overhead can easily be tuned out and blends in with the environment.

   And I wouldn’t say nobody is annoyed at the establishments music. Come Christmas time reddit doesnt shut up about the christmas themed music blasting in all stores.
