I always thought it was kiddy-corner.
Wisconsin – learned it as kitty-corner
Kitty-corner
New England all my life
Never heard anyone say catty corner
You know, I don’t actually know. I feel like I’ve heard both, but each far less frequently than simply “diagonal.”
Kitty-corner: Michigan
I say “diagonal”. Mid-Atlantic.
I’ve never heard anyone say either of those and I’m from Delaware. We just say “diagonal”
Catty corner -Ohio
kitty in Utah
In my experience kitty/kiddy is more northern and catty is southern.
Kitty corner for me
Catty-corner, I didn’t even know kitty-corner existed.
Caddy (northern va)
And then there’s me over here, a golfer, who always thought it was caddy-corner cuz they want to walk the shortest distance lugging around your clubs…
ketty
Diagonal- in the southeast, but I occasionally hear “kitty-corner.”
Catty corner
never heard of kitty or catty corner, its always been kattah-corner in my neck of the woods
[Here’s some maps](https://www.insider.com/american-english-dialects-maps-2018-1?amp) you might be interested in, the map for kitty- vs catty-corner is about halfway down the page.
I say catty corner, don’t really ever hear kitty corner.
Caddy-corner: Pittsburgh
But i hear diagonal 99.9999999999% of the time
I’m from Oklahoma and we said Catty corner. Now I live in Minnesota and everyone here says kitty
I have only ever heard catty-cornered.
I’ve always said catty-corner ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Upper Midwest. Kitty corner.
Catty Corner – North Florida
I love things like this. I’ve always used catty, but I’ve heard both. And to be honest it usually sounds like caddy or kiddie corner. Even saying kiddie corner doesn’t sound right.
I’ve never seen it written. I’ve only ever heard it as caddy corner from other kids. I assume it’s slang, which means we are all right.
Catty in VA
Kitty-corner
I’ve always heard catty-corner
We’ve always gone back and forth between kitty and catty in our family.
Thinking about it tho, my mom’s family is from Oklahoma, so maybe that’s why?
Catty-corner.
As a kid, i actually thought people were saying “cabby corner ” , like a taxi. I didn’t know that was wrong until I saw it written. But I believed that well into my teens.
I’ve heard/used kitty-corner!
Catty-corner, Brooklyn, NY
Wisconsin here. Can’t say I remember seeing it spelled out anyplace. But to my knowledge it would be kitty corner.
When I was younger I said Kitty Corner, I kind of switched to Caddy Corner though. But where I am at both are said. Another poster on here posted a map of locational differences like this and my location for this is right on the border of both of those so it makes sense.
Kitty corner is all I have heard except I don’t think people really used either here in Oregon/Washington. I’d just say “diagonally across” or something like that haha
I never knew either existed until the internet.
Diagonal.
I’ve heard both. I use catty-corner.
