That’s okay! You weren’t assuming anything, just asking. You wanted to be respectful of the fact that he might do something different, and I think that’s a very kind thing to do. I’d just laugh it off with him and be like “yeah I know, just didn’t know if you had any different cultural practices! haha”

Since heās defensive, you can also throw in a, yeah I guessed that part, I was just curious if thereās anything from your grandparents culture that is on the table, or said, or done. My family is ā¦. and relate a short thing thatās always done in your family that might not be typical American. If thatās not the case, declare your family is commercial American and you find family things that are unique to the familyās culture/beliefs to be very interesting
