Is it okay to double text on online apps?

I (26F) am a phd student in the US. There is a postdoc in my university who is two years older than I am. He was my TA a year back when he was a phd and now he is a postdoc in the same university. I have always had a big crush on him, but couldn’t approach him as we weren’t friends and he had no idea who I was. Also he was my TA and it would be appropriate. Since he was a TA, everyone knew him. The class was pretty huge, and I usually attended his office hours virtually with my camera off. So pretty sure he doesn’t know me.

Recently I found him on a dating app and we matched too. I liked him first and replied to one of his prompts. Unfortunately, the conversation fizzled out very quickly. We were talking about movies and he said something about a movie he saw and I was like oh that movie was similar to this. We didn’t reply after that. I do want to talk to him more. However, the last text was mine and I feel like double texting might come off as desperate.

So is it okay to double text, or should I just let this one go?

  1. Yes just text him. What have you got to lose.
Vs what have you got to gain.

    Stop playing games.
