Stupid question, I’m sure! I (29f) have been orgasming in my sleep since I was pretty young. It was few and far between over the years up until two years ago when I started exercising. Now it seems it happens a few times a month, sometimes I’ll have two in one night. The dreams I have are super random, never sex dreams, and I’m always alone. (Example: I was walking on an empty trail and then started to orgasm for no reason. Weird as hell.) I have sex almost once a week with my boyfriend, do you think my body is telling me to have more? Is something down there potentially damaged? I know these are all stupid questions, and probably a great problem to have, but the frequency is becoming more and more over time and it’s freaking me out a bit. How many times is too many? When should I talk to someone?

  1. I think it’s all normal I have random wet dreams. I’m a man
Idk what triggers them but had one the other night

  2. I sometimes get lucid sex dreams where I can orgasm. They’re few and far between, but darn are they fun!

Yours sounds pretty normal to me too

  3. This is normal. You are normal.

Debbie Herbenick, a very well regarded researcher in sexual matters, was the lead author of an article on sleep orgasms and EIO (Exercise Induced Orgasms). The article is titled “Exercise Induced Orgasm and Its Association with Sleep Orgasms and Orgasms During Partnered Sex: Findings from a U.S. Probability Survey”. In the abstract of the article, the statement is made that 42% of women who participated in the study had had during their lifetime at least one sleep orgasm. The article also states, “Lifetime EIO experience was associated with lifetime sleep orgasms …” I don’t know what ‘association’ means here, and I don’t have access to the entire article where this is explained.

Perhaps your exercising is increasing the frequency of your sleep orgasms, as you seem to suggest yourself.

  4. I think this is perfectly normal, as when I was exercising a lot and more fit (lighter) I had very intense erections, morning wood, better sex with my partner. Now that I’m older and gained some weight not so much.

  5. It’s normal. Also used to get them from about the age of 12-35 with less frequency as I got older and since I got myself a vibrator. At some point would only get them before my period, as if my body was preparing for it and so induced cramps this way. Possibly just a way for the body to release some tension as well, that’s at least my theory since I haven’t had them in a while since I just use the vibrator if / when I feel tense.
