Can I date a friend of friend?

Hi I am 23(F). Met a cute boy in an event. My friend introduced me to him. We started talking and we seem to like each other. Now he has asked me on a date. Should I go ahead and say yes? Or should I tell my friend first. What’s the right thing to do.
