I was texting my friend and asked if how he’s doing and he said he’s doing ok. I felt like he might have been dealing with a lot and I said “are you sure you’re doing ok? I don’t mean to pry but if you ever need to talk about anything I’m here for you. I appreciate you for being a good friend.” I’m sometimes awkward and I feel like my response may have been over the top but I wasn’t sure how to word that I was here for him if he need anything.

How should I have responded? Was this rude to say or over the top?

Update: thank you everyone for your responses honestly, I didn’t expect to get this much advice and it’s really helped me know how to respond in the future. I’ll start leaving off the beginning sentence and just letting them know I appreciate the friendship and I’m here for them if they need anything or want to talk about anything.

He responded well, he said “I’m good, thank you bro”. Thanks again everyone, you all are awesome 🙂
