I've been into Punk, Metal and Hardcore (among other things) for years. There's a lot of great GenZ hardcore bands. Recently I've gotten into, GEL, God Awful, Big Ass Truck, Restrictor Plate. What are some more recent bands you enjoy?

Edit: Holy Shit. These are great. Some I know and some are totally knew. Appreciate all the recs!

Also it doesn't just have to be Punk, Metal and Hardcore. Whatever new music you're listening to let me know.

  1. The Midnight, Gunship, Cannons, OVRGRWN, Peking Duk, Carpenter Brut, Chromeo(acquired taste)

    Edit, most of this is Synthy but metal fans seem to be into that sometimes. Gunship/Carpenter Brut fill a niche.

  2. I really got into modem raggae a few years ago. I’ve always loved ska and ska punk since middle school in the 90s. Raggae isn’t too far off from that and really chills the mood. Ballyhoo and Bumpin Uglies are two that are really easy to get into and are amazing live.

    That said I’m also deep into punk (bad religion, descendents, NOFX, etc) but somehow missed alkaline trio in the late 90s. Really melodic songs and Matt skiba is an amazing writer. All of his and Dan’s side projects are worth checking out.

  3. Press Club, Gang of Youths, The Beths, Sly Withers, Angie McMahon, King Princess, New Constellations, One Day as a Lion, K. Flay, and I’m liking Lauren Mayberry’s new solo stuff.

  4. Great Grandpa’s record Four of Arrows affected me in a way that made me feel like I was 19 again. I’m 40.

    Honorable mention to Sweet Pill who are much less contemplative and much more 2000s-mathrock-shredfest and do it maybe better than any band from that era ever did it the first time around.

  5. I’m in a Indie, Retro Soul and just chilling vibe lately.

    My number one right now is Leisure out of New Zealand.

    No Cigar, Rum Jungle, Nature TV, H3F, Durand Jones & The Indications, Young Gun Silver Fox ,PREP, LAB, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, The Leers ,The Rions, Inhaler, Dabeull, Ocean Alley, Lime Cordiale, The Hails ,The California Honeydrops ,Rum Jungle ,Hockey Dad, Pale Jay, Mannequin Pussy, The Orwell’s, Thee Sacred Souls, Malted Milk…

    I could go on. I discovered so much new music in the past year. If someone says there isn’t good music being made, they aren’t looking for it.

    Special mention: Johnnie Taylor. A Southern Soul artist who my Dad used to listen to a lot when I was really young. I came across a song of his one day and fell down a rabbit hole.

  6. I’m a prog metal man myself, you looking for brand new bands, or just ones that put stuff out new stuff the last couple?

    Ihlo, MEER, Sleep Token

  7. Newest additions to my listening include:

    Falling in Reverse

    Nothing More

    Sueco

    From Ashes to New

  8. For me it’s:

    * Movements
    * Sleep Token
    * Dayseeker
    * Counterparts
    * Dermot Kennedy
    * Don Broco
    * Youth Fountain

  9. Spiritkiller, Halo Bite, Passed Lives, Trail of Lies, Love Letter, Body Farm, Cinnamon, Codefendants, Be Well, Stay Inside, Coquette, Conservative Military Image, Anklebiter, Bad Impressions, Buggin, Camp Trash, Casket, Cold Kiss, Dead Pioneers, Deal With God, Everdredd (yes they only have 2 songs out as of today lol), Everybody That Loves You, For Your Health, Kaonashi, Keepsake, Kind Eyes, Mad Peaceful, Move BHC, Postage, Prize, Soul Glo, Swiss Army Wife, To Be Gentle, Values Here, Zulu

    Kept it to mainly punk and it’s 9 million subgenres. Lots of Albany hardcore bands cause that’s where I am and the 518 scene is on fire right now along with the rest of hardcore…yes I do also listen to old shit lol.

  10. Wow, this made me realize how much I don’t really follow current music but these are some artists that have released stuff recently.

    * The Voidz – front-man is Julian Casablancas from The Strokes
    * Albert Hammond Jr. – guitarist from The Strokes that went solo
    * Hamilton Leithauser – front-man for The Walkmen
    * La Comitiva – one of the bands of Erlend Oye, from Kings of Convenience

  11. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Kurt Vile, The Murlocs…

  13. Drain.

    My new go-to at the gym, and they are awesome live. Sammy Ciaramitaro is a wild man who gives so much energy in every show.

  14. **KARMIC JUGGERNAUT**

    *Phantasmagloria* and *The Dreams that Stuff Are Made Of* are AMAZING albums.

  15. Sumac, just released a new album “The Healer” and it’s probably album of the year for me. 10/10, No Notes.

  16. Tomb Mold, Havukruunu, Wayfarer, White Ward, Gatecreeper, and Hellripper are my favorite new(ish) metal bands I’ve discovered the past few years. Oranssi Pazuzu and Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats are a little older but new to me. I also dig Billy Strings and realized I really slept on earlier Black Keys.

  17. I am north of 55 and am always finding new bands that are good to great.

    Just today I found a new band: Unleash The Archers

    In the last year or so I have followed bands like Evermore, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Sabaton.
