I feel one of my strengths at work is identifying and solving problems. Occasionally I need a higher ups approval or advice to move forward with a solution – so I am careful to prepare a concise problem statement and proposal to present to them. In a meeting I recently had, 3/4 people there were not familiar with the problem I was solving. I started the meeting by greeting everyone, we all had a nice conversation about a recent vacation one of them had went on, and I transitioned into a short ~1 minute description of the problem I identified. I then spent about 30 seconds proposing a solution for discussion. This is where my boss breifly chuckled and smiled before wholeheartedly engaging in the discussion. Everyone in the room appeared to engage, asking questions and offering advice. By the end we had all decided to go forward with the solution I proposed.

Overall it felt like a great meeting, I felt heard, respected, and supported by all. What I don't understand is the chuckle and smile from my boss. I've seen people react this way after I speak several times and I am struggling to understand what it means.

Is the way I talk funny? I have a monotonous tone at times and I am also very passionate about my work so sometimes I feel like I am percieved as a bit of a nerd.

Is my boss nervous laughing? Have I said something that makes him look bad or is he nervous to start talking himself?

Is he impressed?

Am I holding unnecessary meetings? Does the topic seem laughably small or simple to call people together to discuss?

Has anyone else noticed this social cue? My boss seems to be the person who does it most frequently and he is notoriously hard to read. Should I just ask him what it means or is there some way I can pin down the meaning myself?
