In Spain is it traditional to give a basket with wine and Christmas sweets and sometimes also some corporate little gift (I’ve gotten an anti stress ball, a usb desk Christmas tree…). This year in Poland I’ve also gotten a basket with fancy wine and sweets, we got a nice team dinner fully paid by the company since COVID won’t allow a full on company party, and we are also getting paid a small extra for Christmas (not a full salary like they do sometimes in Spain, but 500-1000zl depending on your income). So what do companies do in other countries?

  1. Yes, for both my employers (even though I don’t have 2 jobs, I have 2 employers). The one that pays my salary let me choose my own present, so I got a box of Belgian quadruple beer.

The place I actually work at will give me €100 and possibly a piece of clothing with their logo on it.

  2. Yes. Usually a box or basket with food and drinks. A bottle of wine, cheese, maybe a candle. Those kind of things

  3. I have several different jobs and workplaces,so I get several different gifts!

The ‘best’one is almost always the one we are given by the director of the university department I work at… which is a couple of bottles of very good quality wine.

He buys this personally, it’s not paid for by the university.

We do get a Christmas bonus from them though, and usually a meal out in a restaurant too.

  4. Yes 🙂 … we received a Christmas bonus that covered my present shopping as well as a nice basket with very good coffee, some Christmassy teas, nice chocolates, few little jars of different jams, candles and so on. It came in a very nice decorative wicket basket that probably costs more than the things in it haha. My parents took it and will use it for wood for fireplace 🙂

  5. Yes. At my main job, this year, we got different kinds of pasta, pesto, chocolates etc. At my other job we’ve got an advent calendar where 4 people win something each day leading up to Christmas (24 days).

  6. Just few days ago I received a box with chocolate bars, scented candle, a glass Christmas stocking pendant, gingerbread and so on.

Also got a Christmas bonus for 300PLN (not much but I’m still glad, bought myself Nintendo Switch games lol)

  7. Not really. We were going to have a small Christmas dinner at work but our boss is currently off work for health reasons, so we’re not going it right now. And as far as I know, we don’t receive any sweets or extra money for Christmas. Moreover, on Dec 24th I have to be at work at 7 o’clock but only for 7 hours. And because Christmas is on Saturday, I have one day off work later.

  8. Most private companies give their employees Christmas gifts. Nowadays it’s common that employees get a list of presents to choose from. The Christmas present scheme is likely to be phased out or limited in the coming years since the government was bored and decided to put a tax on them. None of that affects me though as I’m employed by the state and public employees (usually?) don’t get them.

  9. We do secret Santa. Everyone gets randomly allocated a person and then buys them a present.

Also a Christmas party and a lunch out together that the company will organise and pay for.

  10. I work for a public transport company. Everyone working late and Night Shift on Dec 24th gets a little present.

  11. Yes in fact where I work we get like a whole box filled with kind of off brand foods and drinks and stuff like a cheese boards and wine glasses and such.

  12. I think baskets of wine and pâté or stuff like this is quite common, chocolate is also very common. My father has just 2 employees but he gets them a box of chocolate, I got one last year as I was working in a supermarket since the beginning of december. You may also have gift vouchers, which costs less money to the employer than just giving you the same amount of straight money.

Then about Christmas bonus it really depends on where you work and maybe how long you’ve been working there. But I don’t much about that topic.

  13. Yes, every year. This year we’ve got winter hats, thermos bottle with cool design, warm blanket, instant hot chocolate, walnut pie, bottle of honey alcohol drink (medovina)

  14. Never got a Christmas gift or bonus at work. I worked on the front line helping people start new lives after a lifetime of abuse.

At times it was life and death work.

Those who do the most for society in the UK usually receive the lowest financial rewards and financial bonuses.

However, we do get something that the vast majority don’t have.

And that’s pride in saving lives and helping give others a second chance.

Money and bonuses can’t buy that. I suspect thats an anathema to the vast majority of people

  15. Yes, every year. This year you cold choose the type of gift( something comfy, sporty and something I forgot). Also a standard goodies bag with tea, stick chocolate, a candle and a cookie. And a 30 eur voucher to the biggest online shop in Ro.

  16. At my current company, we get gift certificates for local companies and restaurants, usually around 70 – 100 Euro.

At my former company, we didn’t get anything beyond a mandatory Christmas party, which was held at the company itself, because catering came cheaper than renting a restaurant or event place for the evening.

  17. No. I think ppl who work on umowa o pracę get a Christmas bonus but I don’t get any extra money.
