I don’t know is this right topic for in this subreddit .
I met some people for improve my english before couple of months ago through online . Usually we have introduced ourselves , then talk about something .
Most of them usually ask me How long have you been studying English .
My answer may have caused some concern in some them .
My answer is ‘ it’s been more than 10 years since I started ‘

I know this answer also may have caused some concern in yours mind . But it’s a funny truth .

I will try to explain that . Actually in my school time since 4th standard ( i think so ) they will teach to us english .
Maybe the syllabus is one of the reason for us to didn’t improved our english yet .

They will teach us in my fourth standards some vocabularies and basic conversations . Something like
Greetings
Animals names
Nouns etc ..

Also they will teach the same things in our whole school life , but there are some differents .After fifth standards in our syllabus there are lot of poems , stories , biography ,dramas etc ..

After 8th class they will try to teach us some grammar things , ‘jhon killed snake ‘ . Why jhone killed snake .?? Why teacher said like that.? Then teacher will try to teach object , verb , subjects. Etc .. i didn’t get why teacher teached something like that , ?? If any native speakers will think about how to place objects , verbs and subjects correctly before their conversation .

Yeah, i didn’t asked that to my teacher . When I memorize those topics , i will pass those exams , then why need to ask the questions to teacher . That’s my thought at that time ..

Btw they still teaching like that , we are still memorize the topics and try to pass our exams . This is not only my story . Most of them like that in my surround . I don’t know yet why don’t we teach how can you communicate better ? How can you speaks better. ? Couldn’t they have created an atmosphere for each other to speak learn english . ??

Ho, everything is happened , i don’t have any time machine to go back in my school life ,and ask that to them .

What else can I do now .?

Studying english has become mandatory for my professional purpose . So most of the suggestion i began to listen english more and more. But then my listening skill only improves . When I try to chat / speaks my english like this . Nothing improves , very bad at all .
In my every posts i usually gave a text at bottom like ‘ sorry for my pure english ‘ . I want to improve that . This is my english , i don’t which level i am in english. Btw i don’t have a situation to talk english to my fridnds . Because most of them are shy ( also I am ).Also most of them likes me , no one’s know how to be a start conversation in english ..

Pls anyone suggest me some good ideas .

‘sorry for my poor English ‘

Thanks

  1. Reading books in english can help. Modern books are best for this. Old books are great and all, but those books do not use the english language as it is used today. You can start with children or teenager books and advance if it makes it easier for you. Listening to podcasts or talk radio in english can help as well. Good luck

  2. From what you said, there are a few possible options that I feel will be helpful:

    1. Take a course for professional English. I know that most people will discourage you from doing this, essentially because English can be learnt 100% for free through the multitude of resources available online. In most cases, they are true. However, these courses **are** tailor-made to help their students learn professional English at a relatively “faster” rate compared to other methods, which **may** be worth it depending on how important English is to your current career.

    2. Talk to people. The way I practiced English was literally by playing multiplayer games (Squad, etc) with strangers. You can find other media to connect with, of course. The most important thing to do if you want to be able to talk and form sentences fast is that you need to keep doing active output (speaking, writing) instead of just doing input (listening, reading).

You can also try writing. My experience hasn’t been that great with this method, mostly because finding good feedback online regarding written work is rather.. unreliable. That said, if you can find writing communities that are supportive, go ahead and join them.

    3. Read and listen to anything that interests you; they can be books, movies, youtube videos, podcasts, video games, etc. This will build the majority of your non-professional vocabulary. Try to stick to official (moderated) translations if you’re reading any medium translated to English from another language.
