it’s father’s day and my dad likes whiskey and his favorite drink is an old fashioned, i wanted to get him something but i have no idea what to buy because i don’t drink and even when i do it all kinda taste the same to me and googling it has proven overwhelming. please help.

  1. You won’t really go wrong with anything in the 20-35 dollar range as long as it’s not flavored. There are some OK cheaper bottles such as Old Grandad which can do the job. Grand Larceny might be the most bang for your buck when it comes to taste and cost.

  2. I like Walking Stick. I think it’s similar to Blanton’s at half the cost and you can probably find it fairly easily.

  3. Everyone is recommending great whiskeys.
    To answer your question directly, for an Old Fashioned I prefer a nice, full bodied Rye.

    My go to is Basil Hayden. Mixed smooth and is delightful in a mixed drink.

    Basil Hayden. It reminds me of a girl.

  4. Rittenhouse Rye is a solid and inexpensive bottle.

    Elijah Craig Small Batch makes a nice old fashioned.
