Trying to give her the best advice because she works full time in a minimum wage job and had saved up to go see her family back in Greece.
I understand why the strikes are happening.

If she was to seek out a refund do you guys know how easy it possibly will be?

  1. Not striking just yet, and it’s likely to be only LHR, not Gatwick, so it depends ds where she is flying from.

  2. No strike dates have been announced yet and there is a legal requirement for a union to give 7 days notice of a strike.

So even if the union moves as quickly as they can, the earliest they could go on strike would be Saturday 2 July.

In practice I expect a short period of continued negotiation before any strikes, and perhaps even a settlement. The union demands are not unaffordable by BA, being principally that a 10% pay cut during the pandemic be restored. BA may give in.

Only about half the BA checkin staff can go on strike in any case, so it’s unlikely to entire seize up BA if they do.

I recommend your friend travel as planned, pack some extra clothes in carry-on baggage if checking a bag, and arrive earlier if any strikes do happen.
