Acting busy or constantly changing things up while we conversate makes the other person more comfortable speaking to you rather than watching them straight in the eye and not moving your body to any degree. Staying frozen and speaking makes the other person uncomfortable.

When conversating try to look the other person in the eye while you talk, but not too much. While looking at the person, move your body to some degree. This can be taking some small steps around the person, or changing stance or arm placement, moving in the chair while talking, even taking a sip of water while talking, all depending on environment.

If in an office meeting, take a sip of your coffee, have a pen in your hand and try to play with it to look serious. Having a company paper note to draft on beside your computer while in meeting will increase your “serious” look, and status around the office and in your meeting – if that’s what you’re looking for.

If talking while working out, move around, take a sip of your water while talking. This comes more natural while we’re outside and moving our body.

If on a date, play with your drink, drink slowly while the other person talks, move in the chair, move the girl around in the venue. Change things up a little, don’t get frozen. That’s why activities or games are perfect for dates. It’s a tension relief.

I’m not telling anyone to do this, but these are some tips that increase your influence and make other people more comfortable conversating and speaking with you.

I’m sure you have some more tips in real life scenarios to share in the comments. I’ll appreciate any tips related to corporate work environment.
